Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has said that it is determined to execute the three Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, despite receiving threats from the terrorist outfit.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that there was a huge backlog of 450 cases of prisoners on death row and the government is determined to establish the writ of law by dealing cases related to terrorism at a faster pace and in a firm manner, the Dawn reports.
According to the report, the three Lashkar-i-Jhangvi terrorists to be executed on August 20, 21 and 22 in the Sukkur Central Prison are Attaullah, Mohammad Azam and Jalal.
Earlier, the TTP had warned the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Government to prepare itself to face dire consequences if it executes the convicts serving jail terms in various parts of the country.
The PML-N Government has pre-decided to end the five-year stay on the execution of the death sentences ordered by the former president in a bid to abolish the group.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed clarified that the death sentences have been awarded by the senior court and not the PML-N Government.
A senior official revealed that it was likely that the files might not be signed by President Asif Ali Zardari and the government may have to wait for the new president to take charge, the report added.
The PML-N Government got the death warrants signed by acting president and Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, while Zardari was on leave during the second week of July.
