Islamabad: The political agent of Khyber Agency has been once again put on notice by the Federally Administered Tribal Areas Tribunal (FATA) in Pakistan to produce record of Dr Shakil Afridi`s trial and conviction for links with banned militant outfit of Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency.
While the tribunal comprising of Shah Wali Khan, Pir Fida and Akbar Khan has been demanding the production of the record since a long time, there has been no response from the political agent of Khyber Agency.
Dr Shakil has submitted a revision petition to the FATA tribunal against the upholding of his conviction by an appellate forum of the FCR commissioner, the Dawn reports.
The Tribunal has scheduled the next hearing into the petition for Sept 18.
Meanwhile, Dr Shakil`s lawyer Qamar Nadeem Afridi has accused the administration of purposefully delaying production of the record to stretch the case.
He said the commission had failed to take into account several facts while upholding the conviction of Shakil, adding his client was denied the right to fair trial and was convicted by the APA on unsubstantiated grounds.
Dr Shakil was sentenced 33 years in jail in May for his links to a banned militant group.
Shakil`s imprisonment is widely seen as his punishment for helping the CIA find the then al-Qaeda leader Osama-bin-laden, and has led to strained ties between Washington and Islamabad.
