Peshawar: Pakistani troops gunned down 19
militants, including foreign fighters, and took control of an
important rebel stronghold in the troubled Khyber Agency on Friday.
Security personnel took control of the militant base
of Chhapri Feroze Khel after overcoming stiff resistance from
the rebels, the Frontier Corps said.
Three foreign fighters were among the 19 militants
killed in fighting.
Officials claimed many rebels were injured.
Troops also took control of a key road connecting
Khyber Agency and Orakzai tribal region, officials said.
A total of 49 militants have been killed and 48
arrested in three days of fighting in Khyber Agency, located a
short distance from the northwestern city of Peshawar.
Earlier in the day, security forces pounded militant
strongholds in Tirah area of Khyber Agency and destroyed
several camps.
The militants were on the run and security forces had
cordoned off the area and sealed key roads, officials said.
The militants have targeted army and Frontier Corps
camps in the region.
