Lahore: Pakistani police today briefly
detained a 70-year-old American who runs a missionary school
after discovering bullets in his luggage at Lahore airport,
police said.

The US citizen was detained after 30 rifle cartridges
were discovered in his luggage at the airport, where he was
travelling to Dubai.

Police official Sohail Kazmi quoted the man as saying
he was a retired teacher who runs a missionary school in the
nearby town of Sahiwal.

He told interrogators the cartridges were in his
luggage because he had packed "in haste", Kazmi said.
The man was allowed to leave the country, but could
face charges upon his return, Kazmi said.

The US embassy in Islamabad said it had no immediate
details and that its consulate in Lahore was checking the
facts and identity of the American.
