Pakistan offers assistance for Japan quake victims Islamabad: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has offered Japan all possible assistance to overcome the devastation caused by the catastrophic earthquake and ensuing tsunami.

Zardari visited the Japanese embassy on Thursday and expressed solidarity with the government and people of Japan, the Daily Times reported.

He said the Pakistani people can relate to the devastation caused by natural calamities like earthquakes and floods.

"We feel Japan's pain and we have been stunned by the tragic images," Zardari said.

"We remember how Japan stood by Pakistan during its difficult times. We stand by Japan at this hour and remain ready to provide any assistance," he said.

A magnitude-9 earthquake struck the northeastern coastal areas of Japan March 11 that has left over 10,000 people dead.

At the Japanese embassy, Zardari wrote in the condolence book for the earthquake and tsunami victims: "The devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami have been truly shocking."

Chihiro Atsumi, Japanese ambassador to Pakistan, thanked Zardari for his offer for assistance.

Pakistan has also sent a special aircraft carrying relief goods for the affected people.
