Islamabad: At least 118 people have been killed and more than 800 injured in the continuing rains and floods in Pakistan, the government said on Tuesday.
More than half a million people have also been affected as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was struggling to rescue the people and provide relief to the uprooted victims.
Eastern province of Punjab has been badly hit by the floods where 34 people have been killed and 747 injured.
Narowal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Nankanasab, Gujrat and Rajanpur are among the worst hit districts of the province.
At least 26 people have been killed in Sindh, 24 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 18 in Balochistan and 12 in tribal areas.
Four people were also killed? in Bagh area of Kashmir. More than 11,000 houses were fully damaged while more than 16,500 partially affected. The number of flood hit villages has reached 1,746.
NDMA has set up 94 camps for the flood victims where more than 9,200 people are living. More than 4,500 cattle heads have also perished in the floods and crops over 4,12000 acres destroyed, dealing a blow to poverty stricken villagers mostly living in subsistence farming.
Army and civil administration are helping the people. The current spell of the rain is slowly coming to an end as there is forecast of isolated rain in the country in the next 24 hours.
Annual monsoon showers bring widespread rains in the country. In the worst flood of 2010, more than 1700 people were killed and over 20 million affected.
