Pakistan`s law and order situation `dismal`: Minister

PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, tipped to become Pakistan`s Interior Minister, said law and order situation in country is "dismal" though the new government would work sincerely to improve it.

Islamabad: Senior PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, tipped to become Pakistan`s Interior Minister, on Friday said the law and order situation in the country is "dismal" though the new government would work sincerely to improve it. "The new government will work day and night to safeguard the life and property of citizens. The task is challenging but we are determined to address the law and order situation effectively," Khan told reporters shortly after he was sworn in as a federal minister. The federal government will provide complete support and assistance to non-PML-N governments in Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces to cope with law and order problems, he said. This assistance will include intelligence-sharing and the deployment of security forces on the basis of need, he said. Federal security forces, including Pakistan Rangers, would be provided if provinces need support to maintain law and order, Khan said. An action plan on improving law and order will be devised after a meeting on Monday, he said. Khan, who is considered close to the military establishment, was among 25 ministers who were sworn in by President Asif Ali Zardari this evening. PTI
