Islamabad: At least six people were killed and over a dozen others were injured when a bomb planted on the railway track near Nautal rail station in Baluchistan province went off when Quetta-bound Jaffar Express was passing through the spot.

Jaffar Express was travelling from Rawalpindi to Quetta, the main town of the restive Baluchistan province.

The powerful explosion caused damage to four catches of the train, which derailed due to the impact of the blast.

Government officials have confirmed that the target of the bomb attack was the passenger train.

Security personnel are at the site and have begun a probe into the incident.

The injured, some are critical, have been taken to nearby hospitals.

Meanwhile some reports claimed - quoting officials - that "human remains" have been found from the blast site, suggestive of the possibility that the blast was triggered by a suicide bomber.
