Peshawar: Ten Taliban fighters were killed
when helicopter gunships shelled militant positions while
security forces burnt the homes of five rebels in the restive
tribal belt in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, officials said.

Helicopter gunships targeted militant positions in
several parts of Orakzai tribal region, killing 10 rebels and
injuring a dozen more, officials said.
The homes of five militants wanted by authorities were
burnt in Qandaro area of Mohmand tribal region during a joint
search operation by the local political administration and
security forces, they said.

In the restive Swat district, security forces put red
marks on the homes of 92 absconding militants and directed
them to surrender.

In a separate development, eight tribesmen were
kidnapped by unidentified armed men in Qila Gai area of
Mohmand Agency and taken away to an unknown location.

Local residents said the tribesmen were kidnapped by
rebels because they had accepted financial aid from the
government.

No group claimed responsibility for the abductions.
In yet another incident, a volunteer of a "peace
committee" or pro-government militia was injured when a bomb
went off in Manzair area of Mohmand Agency.

The injured man was taken to Peshawar and admitted to
