Islamabad: Pakistan`s Senate has unanimously passed a resolution asking the government to formally include water disputes with India in the agenda for bilateral talks.
"The house calls upon the government to include all water disputes of Pakistan with India in the composite dialogue or in any other talks or dialogue process that is revived or initiated with India," said the resolution moved by Senator Sughra Imam of the Pakistan People`s Party yesterday.
Surprisingly, the members in the upper house insisted that the resolution should be passed despite the announcement by Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq that the government had already made water issues a part of the agenda of the dialogue with India.
Imam said the issue of water was very significant for Pakistan in the next two or three decades as it would be the requirement of 250 million people in the country. He said even WTO members were now discussing water as a trade item.
