New York: Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN Abdullah Hussain Haroon will leave for home next week to meet the country's top political leadership amid reports that he has resigned from his post.

According to reports in Pakistani media, Haroon, 61 resigned as Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations due to differences with Islamabad on certain policy matters and interference in the affairs of his office.

A spokesperson at Pakistan's mission to the UN here said the mission is "neither denying nor confirming" the reports of Haroon's resignation.

"The ambassador is leaving for Pakistan on Monday for consultations," the spokesperson said.

He said during the visit, Haroon will "certainly (meet) the highest political leadership”.

The spokesperson said he has no comments on reports that the Pakistani envoy had resigned due to differences with his government.

Haroon assumed his position as Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN in September 2008.

Pakistan is currently a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Its term will expire next year.
