Parties protest against fuel price hike in Nepal

Maoist affiliated outfits staged demonstrations against hike in fuel prices.

Kathmandu: Maoist affiliated organisations and other political groups here on Sunday staged demonstrations across the city to protest the hike in fuel prices by the Nepal Oil Corporation.

Fourteen different Maoist affiliated organisations including the Young Communist League (YCL) staged demonstrations in different parts of the capital including Maharajgunj, Kalanki, Balaju, Satdobato and Koteshwor.

Vehicular movement in the valley remained affected for hours due to ongoing protests.
Rastiya Prajatantra Party-Nepal picketed in front of the Nepal Oil Corporation at Babarmahal to protest against the price hike. The NOC had recently increased the prices of petrol, kerosene and cooking gas to cover up its losses.

The party president Kamal Thapa led the two hour picketing organised to pressurise the government to roll back the decision to hike the fuel price.
The party said it will continue protests unless the government withdraws its decision. Thirteen different student unions also called the NOC to withdraw the price hike and warned to launch agitation.
