Kathmandu: In an apparent bid to thwart
anti-China protests by Tibetan exiles, two Tibetan leaders
were arrested on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
Kelsang Dondup, Chairman of New Age Network, and his
associate Tashi Dawa were arrested near Boudha area for their
alleged involvement in anti-China activities, police said.
The New Age Network is the most active anti-China group
operating in Nepal.
Nepal has intensified crackdown against Tibetan exiles
recently coming under pressure from Chinese government.
Nepal adheres to the one-China policy and has banned
anti-China protests by Tibetan exiles from its soil.
Annually, around 2,500 Tibetans cross the Chinese border
and enter Nepal on their way to meet their spiritual leader
the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala.
Nepal is home to some 20,000 Tibetan refugees.
