Islamabad: A powerful explosion was
heard on Thursday in the cantonment city of Sargodha, which hosts
Pakistan`s largest air base, triggering panic among local
residents.

TV news channels reported that the blast was heard in
Tariqabad area within Sargodha in Punjab province, which is
also home to one of Pakistan`s main air force bases.
Rescue teams and ambulances rushed to Tariqabad, the
channels reported.

However, regional police chief Mian Javed Aslam said
there were no reports of casualties or damage to property from
any part of the city.

He said the sound may have been caused by an air force
jet breaking the sound barrier during a routine flight.
Shops closed down and people rushed to their homes as
news of the blast spread.
