Prabhakaran’s son was offered snacks, then executed

London: Fresh questions have been raised over Sri Lanka's armed forces conduct during the final stages of the operation against Tamil Tiger rebels after new photographs emerged claiming that the 12-year-old son of the militants' leader was summarily executed.

A series of photographs show Balachandran Prabhakaran, son of Villupillai Prabhakaran, who was head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

According to the Independent, one of the photos shows the boy sitting in a bunker, alive and unharmed, apparently in the custody of Sri Lankan troops.

Another picture which was taken a few hours later shows the boy's body lying on the ground, his chest pierced by bullets.

The images were taken in May 2009 at the end of the Sri Lankan Government's operation to crush the LTTE, which had launched a bloody, decades-long insurgency against the state that led to the deaths of perhaps 70,000 people.

According to the report, the authorities always said Prabhakaran's son was killed in cross-fire, as troops moved in to take the LTTE's last stronghold.

But the images, contained in a new documentary, No Fire Zone, which will be screened at the Geneva Human Rights Film Festival during the UN Human Rights Council meeting in March, suggest the boy was captured alive and killed at a later stage.

A forensic pathologist who examined the later images for the film-makers, said the boy was shot five times in the chest.

Furthermore, propellant burns around the wound suggest he was shot at very close range.

The film's director, Callum Macrae, claimed that the new photographs were important evidence because they appear to rule out any suggestion that Balachandran was killed in cross-fire or during a battle.

They show he was held, and even given a snack, before being taken and executed in cold blood.

Prabhakaran's body was displayed on state television, part of the front of his skull missing, also suggesting he may have been shot at close range.

The Sri Lankan authorities have always denied shooting anyone who was trying to surrender, it added.

Sometimes God gives victory for some people for some times, it doesn`t mean there will be victory for ever. Killing small kids is a heinous sin. It is not good. The karma need be paid of by whoever has committed. Life of warriors or his family always written in blood.

Ohhh brutal killer Father (Murderer) has killed his own son same as he killed others innocent children. Ohhh, we can see that the Artist has spent Three Years to draw it. Is Technology that much slow? Since 1990s any one can send any information to any number of people within few seconds, but this post has taken more than three years????? LTTE killed more than 1000000.....000 innocent people, children (No one child), Buddhist Monks, Muslims, Tamils, and Leaders. In addition, destroyed entire Sri Lanka for 30 years (30 > 3). No one did command LTTE to stop killing innocent Sri Lankans regardless of nationality and religion. We need Elam in India in Tamil Nadu...Look after your country than trying to take some ones property forcibly.

Only animals can do it. But INDIA needs a similar LTTE like organisation to fight the ethnic cleansing activities of indian higher caste. SL has done this in war. But but but more heinous crimes are being uted for generations in india by the higher cast to the lower caste peacefully in the name of hinduism. India should look at its OWN human right violations happening for thousands of years. This is barbarous more barbarous than the war crimes elsewhere in the world. And they are PEACE-CRIMEs by indians. Not a WAR-CRIME. India has no moral to comment for the crimes happening in others land.

There is no doubt that this is inhuman, and unforgivable, unconditionally. But it needs to be explored what all has gone into the years. When IPKF was in Sri Lanka, they were shot by `children` as young as 10 on whom they had turned their backs thinking they were harmless. So there were child soldiers in Sri Lanka as well. The real issue is their creation, which has led to the death of innocent children. Who can correct that now?

The barbaric killing of a child bears testimony to the War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity committed by the Sri Lankan government and it’s Army. The act of the Sri Lankan Army has made the civilised world hang its head in shame. This is yet more proof that President Rajapaksa is a war criminal and the Sri Lankan Army committed War Crimes.

Highly unacceptable act! How could you kill someone of such a tender age - forget about background. Highly insensitive act, if that was carried by Military - they are supposed to fight against bad, not harmless kids.

I pity on people commenting on this article without knowing the history of Srilanka. Pleae read the story of Tamils in Srilanka, understand the truth and then comment. Please do not comment with out knowing the facts.... Srilankan army killed innocent tamils who fought for their right. Is it injustice for the TAMILS to fight for their rights in their own country.??????????

Isn`t sufficient to the world community to initiate stingent action against the Linguistic chauvinist,Anti- Tamil Racial country Srilanka and this the right time for Tamil forces to raise their Voices against the so called nation Srilanka.

RAJAVARMAN - COLOMBO
It is highly unfortunate that we Indians helped the crooked/useless Lankan military to carry out that heinous crime against humanity. The entire world was watching the the episode with their mouths shut and eyes closed, are we really living in a civilized society? Rajapakse should be condemned at once as his military has carried this massacre relentlessly.
