Prachanda claims Nepal will have a new govt soon

Kathmandu: Maoist strongman Prachanda today said Nepal would soon have a new government, apparently hinting at possibilities of re-alignment of political parties, in the country which has been paralysed by civil unrest for the past five months.

Flying-in from Singapore after a meeting with the ailing Nepalese Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala, Prachanda told newsmen at the airport that the present "unnatural alliance" government would soon collapse and replaced by a new alliance.

The political deadlock in Nepal would end before November 20 -- the deadline set by the Maoists to meet their demand for what they call restoration of "civilian supremacy".

The party is also demanding dismissal of the multi-party coalition government and rectification of President Rambaran Yadav's reinstatement of the former army chief Rukmangad Katawal.

Prachanda's comments assume significance after Koirala's daughter and Deputy Prime Minister Sujata said that the Maoist leader and her father in the meeting had agreed on setting up an all-party political mechanism to end the current political impasse.

Sujata was quoted by the government-run daily 'Gorakhpatra' as saying that Koirala and Prachanda during the meeting had agreed to form a high-level political mechanism and to find a middle path for ending the political deadlock.
