Kathmandu: A pro-royalist in Nepal has slapped a lawsuit against Deputy Premier Sujata Koirala's Bangladeshi son-in-law over his alleged role in corruption, days after a gun brawl involving the top politician's kin and controversial ex-crown prince Paras hit headlines.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal's (RPP-N) Sindhupalchowk District President Daindra Bahadur Thakuri said that he has filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court against Rubel Chowdhury, the son-in-law of Koirala, seeking action against him in several corruption cases in which he was allegedly involved.

The move by the pro-royal party member came more than a week after a gun brawl involving Chowdhury and Paras during a dinner in a jungle lodge of Chitawan district.

According to media reports, Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi national, is allegedly linked to a scam regarding purchase of armed personnel carriers for the Nepal Army forces deployed in Sudan, causing loss of Rs 300 million to the national coffer.

The Parliamentary committee has asked the government to take action in the case.

Another case in which Chowdhury was allegedly involved related to the arrest of some Bangladeshi nationals for illegally operating Internet calls through Voice Over Internet Protocol.

"I filed the case in the apex court that the truth regarding Chowdhury's alleged involvement in these incidents must be investigated and if found guilty he should get punishment," Thakuri, a key member of the royalist party, said.

The arrest of Paras for two days over the gun brawl nine days ago had angered royalists in Nepal, who also staged protests in different parts of the country. Paras was later released on a bail of Rs 10,000.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier Koirala appealed to the media not to play up the Tiger Tops Resort shootout incident anymore.

She, however said that "if Rubel is proven guilty, taking legal action against him is mandatory."
