Provide probe report to Musharraf: Pakistani court to FIA

Pakistan`s embattled former military ruler Pervez Musharraf should be given a copy of the probe report which is the basis of the treason trial against him, a special court ordered today.

Islamabad: Pakistan`s embattled former military ruler Pervez Musharraf should be given a copy of the probe report which is the basis of the treason trial against him, a special court ordered today.

Musharraf`s lawyer Faisal Chaudhry told PTI that the three-member bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab accepted their application and asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to hand over the relevant documents by May 14.

"It is a success as the court accepted our plea to provide all papers related to the accused," he said.

70-year-old Musharraf is standing trial for subverting the constitution by imposing emergency in 2007, a treasonous act punishable with death or life term.

The trial started in December and Musharraf was formally charged on March 31.

Last month, his lawyer Farogh Naseem had sought a copy of investigation report by FIA which concluded that Musharraf had violated the constitution.
Musharraf, who returned to Pakistan from self-exile in March last year, has faced prosecution in the four major cases, including for his alleged involvement in the murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in 2007. He has denied all charges against him.
Musharraf, who is currently staying in Karachi, is trying to go abroad on medical grounds but the government has refused to lift travel ban on him.
