Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa has charged Norway with funding the Liberation Tigers for Tamil Ealam (LTTE) terrorist group during the island`s three-decade civil war, and demanded an investigation into the involvement of the former Norwegian Government.
Addressing a function in Kurunegala, Rajapaksa said his government has evidence supporting Norway`s involvement with the LTTE during the war.
He called on Oslo to probe its role during the ceasefire it brokered between the then Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE.
He also charged former Norwegian peace envoy Eric Solheim for supporting the LTTE, even as the latter is scheduled to testify against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council led investigation, reports the Colombo Page web site.
