Security forces killed eight militants in a gun battle while a would-be suicide bomber blew him up when he was surrounded by troops in northwest Pakistan Thursday, officials said.

Pakistan Thursday, officials said.

Eight militants were killed and 20 more were
apprehended when rebels clashed with security forces in the
restive Mohmand tribal region, Frontier Corps spokesman Maj
Fazlur Rehman said.

In the Bajaur tribal region, a would-be suicide bomber
detonated his explosive vest when he was intercepted and
encircled by security forces. An accomplice of the bomber was
arrested, officials said.

In yet another incident, four soldiers, including an
officer and a junior commissioned officer, were injured when
an improvised explosive device went off in Lakaro area of
Mohmand Agency.

In the Orakzai tribal region, security forces acting
on a tip-off from intelligence agencies seized a cache of arms
and ammunition.

The cache seized in Kangana village included 350
shells for 80 mm mortar, 230 rockets, 370 fuses, rifles and
ammunition.
