Peshawar: Life in the restive Swat valley in northwest Pakistan was affected on Thursday by strict security arrangements put in place by authorities for a visit by a high-level US delegation led by National Security Advisor James Jones.
The administration of Swat district virtually closed down the valley with an unannounced curfew when the US delegation visited the area.
Schools were shut and key roads in Mingora, the main
city in Swat district, were closed to pedestrians and
motorists, local residents said.
The US delegation also included Deputy National
Security Advisor Douglas Lute and Eric Lebson, Director on
Afghanistan and Pakistan affairs.
Meanwhile, Pakistani security forces torched the home
of wanted militant Sher Malik in Mohallah Chinar in the Swat
region.
Troops also apprehended a suspected militant during a
search operation, officials said.
