Peshawar: Seven tribesmen were killed and 11
more injured in clashes between two rival tribes in the Kurram
region of northwest Pakistan today, taking the total number of
deaths in fighting to 36.

Members of the Shalozan and Shalozan Tangi tribes have
clashed over the past fortnight following differences over the
distribution of irrigation water.

The rival tribesmen have used rockets, mortars and other
heavy weapons to target each other`s positions.

The clashes that erupted two weeks ago have also injured
over 50 people, sources said.

Twelve people were killed in fighting during the Eid
festival.

The political administration of Kurram Agency, one of
seven semi-autonomous regions in the tribal belt, said steps
were being taken to restore peace between the tribes.
