Karachi: As many as seven persons, including two policemen, have been shot dead by unidentified assailants in Pakistan's biggest city, with police describing the attacks as "target killings".

Yesterday proved to be a bloody day here as gunmen opened fire on a police check post in North Nazimabad and killed two policemen on duty.

Two government officials working with the national highway authority and Karachi land department were shot dead in their SUV on the busy University road.

SSP Mohammad Shah said the killings were targeted as the assailants were apparently waiting on the motorbike near a bridge for the government car.

"They opened indiscriminate firing, killing the two officials on the spot," Shah said.

In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, a neurosurgeon also fell prey to target killers, police said.
