Colombo: Sri Lankan Minister for Human
Rights Mahinda Samarasinghe Wednesday said that the government was committed to implementing the human rights action plan soon.

Briefing the media on his visit last week to Geneva to
attend the UN human rights council sessions, Samsrasinghe said
over 50 countries had appreciated Sri Lanka`s progress since
the end to the conflict with the LTTE.
"A small number of countries targeting Sri Lanka
cannot be regarded the international community," he said in an
obvious reference to Western criticism of the island`s rights
record and their calls for accountability.

Samarasinghe said that it was unfair for rights watch
groups and nations to dismiss the Lessons Learnt and
Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

"These organizations declined testify before the LLRC
when invited," he added.
