Colombo: Sri Lanka has shelved plans to
change its electoral system from proportional representation
to first-past-the-post for at least for the time being, a
senior minister said Wednesday.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's United People's Freedom
Alliance had wanted to conduct next year's local council
elections under a first-past-the-post, but drawing up
individual constituencies and wards would take more time.
