Sri Lankan local government election on 17th March

First post-war local government elections in Sri Lanka will be held on March 17, country`s top poll body announced Thursday.

Colombo: First post-war local government elections in Sri Lanka will be held on March 17, country`s top poll body announced Thursday.

Election commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake announced
the date at the end of accepting nominations this afternoon.

The election will be held to select representatives
for around 300 local government councils.

Meanwhile in poll related violence, at least two
persons have been injured in Ratnapura district, 100 km
southeast Colombo.
