Sri Lankan navy detains S Korean merchant vessel

A South Korean merchant vessel has been detained by the Sri Lanka navy for allegedly failing to rescue a crew member who fell overboard, officials said.

Colombo: A South Korean merchant vessel
has been detained by the Sri Lanka navy for allegedly failing
to rescue a crew member who fell overboard, officials said.

A Russian national said to be the second engineer of
the vessel was rescued by another ship in vicinity and later
hospitalized yesterday.

The South Korean vessel later was heading towards Goa
when Lankan navy vessels intercepted and detained it, a naval
official said.

The vessel will be detained till police investigations
are finalised.
