`Strategic dialogue with US more successful than expected`

Pakistan`s first ministerial-level strategic dialogue with the US was more successful than expected and civil and military leadership had presented the country`s point of view in one voice, Foreign Min Shah Mahmood Qureshi said.

Lahore: Pakistan`s first ministerial-level strategic dialogue with the US was more successful than expected and civil and military leadership had presented the country`s point of view in one voice, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Sunday.

He was talking to reports at the airport here on his return from the US following the strategic dialogue.

The US has felt that Pakistan`s political and military leadership have a collective approach to the country`s interests and policies for the first time, he said.

Pakistan successfully conveyed its point of view to the US and many issues were discussed in the dialogue, Qureshi said.

"We discussed all matters of the mutual concern with them and the US has agreed to consider our demands.. We told them that Pakistan is facing a severe energy crisis and we asked them to help us in the energy sector," he said.

A request was made for help in getting soft term loans from the International Monetary Fund for Pakistan, the minister said.

The process of dialogue will continue and its next phase will start in April, when several US delegations will visit Pakistan for discussions on cooperation in areas like agriculture, health, energy, education, economy and defence, he said.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also visit Pakistan after the completion of second phase of the dialogue, he said.

The matter of body scanning of Pakistani citizens in the US and Pakistan`s energy shortage were also discussed, Qureshi said.
