Taliban militants` families `expelled` from Malakand

Security forces and a tribal jirga have expelled the kin of over 70 Taliban militants from their homes in the restive Malakand region.

Peshawar: Security forces and a tribal
jirga have expelled the kin of over 70 Taliban militants from
their homes in the restive Malakand region in northwest
Pakistan, officials said on Tuesday.

The security forces and the jirga had recently decided
to expel the families of wanted militants from their homes if
they did not surrender to authorities within a stipulated
deadline.

The families of 65 Taliban fighters from the restive
Swat district and the kin of eight other rebels from different
parts of the Malakand division have been expelled from their
homes so far.

These people are currently living in a camp set up by
the army at Palai area of Malakand division.

Most parts of Malakand were controlled by Taliban
fighters led by radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah till the army
launched an operation last year to flush out the rebels.
