Taliban rocket kills woman, child in Afghanistan
Afghan President Hamid Karzai and NATO`s commander for Afghanistan, General John Allen, condemned the insurgents.
Kabul: Officials say a rocket fired by Taliban insurgents has killed a woman and her child in eastern Afghanistan.
President Hamid Karzai and NATO`s commander for Afghanistan, General John Allen, condemned the insurgents on Thursday for firing the rocket in Kapisa province.
The provincial governor`s chief of staff, Abdul Sabor Wafa, says insurgents fired a mortar round during a battle with Afghan Army soldiers trying to clear militants from a stronghold in Alasay district on Wednesday.
He says the mortar hit a civilian house, killing a woman and her daughter and wounding at least six others.
Allen called the violence a "deliberate attack on the people of Afghanistan”. The NATO statement quoting Allen did not mention any battle in the area at the time.
