Kathmandu: Three members of a family, two of
them children, were killed as a landslide swept away their
house in a village in western Nepal.

Among the dead was a 55-year-old women and her two grand
children aged five and six years, police said.

The landslide also swept away four other houses in the
Jajarkot district of western Nepal, and an 18 month old child
was also injured.

Police with the help of local people carried out rescue
work after the incident.

Traffic was also disrupted over the last two days due to
the landslide in the area.

The section of the highway connecting Salyan to Rukum, a
neighbouring district of Jajarkotl, has been damaged and
hundreds of passengers have been stranded on the highway.

Landslide triggered by continuous rain in Lalitpur
district near Kathmandu has also obstructed vehicular
movement for the past three days.

The national news agency RSS reported that local
residents of a number of villages including Ekudol, Ashrang,
Gimdi and Malta have been facing difficulties due to road
obstruction following the landslide.
