Karachi: Three policemen have been killed in different violence incidents in Pakistan's financial capital Karachi, raising the number of policemen murdered this year in the city to 114.

Two constables and a sub-inspector were gunned down in different incidents in the city on Wednesday night, highlighting the risks the lowly paid and much maligned policemen are facing in Karachi in present times.

"Life is becoming increasingly dangerous for policemen belonging to any rank in Karachi and the evidence we have collected show most of the time the target killings have been carried out by militants," CID official Umar Khatab said.

"We now expect retaliatory killings the moment we conduct raids and arrest these militants or hardcore criminal elements or if some of them are killed in exchange of gunfire," he said.

In one incident, an ASI was gunned down by two motorcyclists in broad daylight while returning from duty.

Last week, five policemen were killed over three days of consecutive attacks and overall 114 policemen have been murdered in Karachi this year.
