Kathmandu: Three women, who were alleged to be poachers, were killed by the army personnel in a firing at Babai Valley in western Nepal.

Nepal Army in a statement said that the three poachers were killed during an encounter with the soldiers in the national park area.

The army said they have also arrested four people including a girl from the site. They also recovered three home made guns, four rounds of bullets, knifes and explosives from them.

However, contradictory reports in the local media alleged that the women were killed during a shootout by the army when they entered the forest area to collect fodder.

Meanwhile, according to the army statement, an Indian national has been arrested for carrying 10.7 kg of hashish from Surkhet district.

Badri Singh, a resident of Himanchal Pradesh, was accused of transporting the contraband item from Harre Security base of the Nepal Army during a security checking, the army said.
