Peshawar: Turkey's land forces commander Gen Sebahattin Isik Kosaner on Thursday said his country will extend full support to the Pakistan government for meeting the challenge of militancy and restoring normalcy in the restive Swat valley.

Kosaner made the remarks while interacting with Pakistani military commanders in this northwestern city.

He visited the Corps Headquarters here and met Corps Commander Lt Gen Asif Yasin Malik.

The two officials exchanged views and discussed matters related to mutual professional interests, a statement said.

Kosaner was briefed about uplift and development activities undertaken by the Pakistan Army in the volatile tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.

Kosaner also visited Swat and laid a floral wreath at a memorial to soldiers killed in operations against Taliban militants.

Addressing a gathering at Wadoodia Hall at Saidu Sharif in Swat, he said that relations between Pakistan and Turkey are time-tested and deep and Turkey will always stand with the people and government of Pakistan in difficult times.
