Peshawar: Two persons, including a policeman, were injured in a bomb blast that targeted a church at Mardan in northwest Pakistan, officials said on Monday.

The bomb went off near the Lutheran church located within the cantonment in Mardan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province last night.

There were conflicting reports about the explosion.

Officials said the bomb was thrown at the church by an unidentified man while other sources said explosive device was planted near the building.

Police constable Fazal Rabi was among the two persons injured in the attack.

The blast damaged the church.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The places of worship of minority communities and sects have been targeted by pro-Taliban militants over the past few months.
