UN chief `dismayed` by Pakistan mosque attacks

Ban Ki-moon extends condolences to families of the victims and to Pak govt.

New York: UN chief Ban Ki-moon has expressed dismay at two bomb attacks on mosques in northwest Pakistan which left about 70 dead, his spokesman said.

"The secretary general condemns in the strongest possible terms today`s terrorist attacks on two mosques in the northwest of Pakistan," the spokesman said on Friday in a statement.

"The secretary general is dismayed by the indiscriminate killing of civilians in a place of worship, which no cause can justify."

Ban extended condolences to the families of the victims and to the Pakistan government.

The attacks were carried out in the region of Akhurwall, about 140 kilometres west of Islamabad.
