Kathmandu: Slamming UN chief Ban Ki-moon's report that peace process in Nepal was on the verge of collapse, Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala said it did not reflect ground reality.
Koirala made the remarks after Ban presented his report to the UN Security Council claiming that due to the growing mistrust between the government, Maoists and the Army peace process would fall apart.
Talking to chiefs of diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu, Koirala yesterday said the situation reflected by Ban in his report is far from reality.
During his meeting with the envoys from UK, Germany, France, Denmark and Finland Koirala said the peace process was moving in the right direction specially after three major parties agreed to form a high level political mechanism to discuss the issue.
Maoist chief Prachanda and CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal are the two other members of the high level body.
The foreign envoys on the occasion congratulated Koirala for forming the political mechanism under his leadership to assist in taking the peace process to the logical end and the draft the new constitution.
During his meeting with the foreign envoys the former Nepalese premier spoke about new developments that have taken place after Ban evaluated the situation in Nepal, Koirala's foreign affairs advisor Suresh Chalise later said.
Koirala noted that these developments were not reflected in the UN chief's report, Chalise said.
Speaking about the newly formed high level political mechanism led by him, which includes both Maoist chief Prachanda and Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Korila told the diplomats not to be pessimistic about the peace process, Chalise added.
