Islamabad: The University of Karachi today
conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Pakistan`s Interior Minister Rehman Malik in recognition of his "matchless services to the country in the war on terror".
The degree was awarded to Malik during a special convocation ceremony held at the Governor`s House in Karachi.
Sindh Governor Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan, who is the Chancellor
of the university, conferred the degree on the minister.
The degree awarded by the syndicate of the varsity also
recognised Malik`s role in restoring peace to the citizens of
Karachi, which has been rocked by political and ethnic
violence since last year.
Malik was a student of the university and received his
masters degree in statistics from the institution.
The citation for the honorary degree stated that Malik
had "strategised operational plans and led the war on terror
to contain the Taliban throughout the country".
