US aiming to isolate Pak Army, says JUI-F chief

Fazlur Rehman has termed last week`s attack on PNS Mehran a conspiracy.

Peshawar: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazlur Rehman) (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman has termed last week’s attack on naval-cum-air force base PNS Mehran a conspiracy.

Rehman said that through such attacks the US and its allies aim to isolate the Pakistan Army by signalling to the world that the country’s nuclear assets are not safe, The Nation reports.

The JUI-F also claimed that the US and its allies are aiming to forcefully take possession of the resources of Muslim countries across the world.

He, however, said: “Despite the prevailing conditions the future of Islam and Muslims both was bright.”

Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had carried out the attack on May 22, which killed 18 military personnel and wounded 16.

According to the US and Western intelligence sources, the attack was far more dangerous than the 2009 Pakistan Army General Headquarters attack, and was better planned and more rehearsed than the previous attacks.

It was the biggest attack on the Navy and its assets since 1971.
