Washington: The US is "gratified" that Pakistan has arrested three alleged close associates of Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad, the failed Times Square bomber.
"As we indicated in the aftermath of the failed Times Square attempt, we believe strongly that Faisal Shahzad had help within Pakistan, and we have worked very extensively and closely with Pakistani authorities," State Department spokesman PJ Crowley said.
"There is an ongoing criminal investigation, but we are gratified that Pakistan have made some arrests in this case. But obviously, the fate of those particular defendants is in the hands of the Pakistani judicial system," Crowley said.
According to reports, authorities in Pakistan arrested three persons - Muhammad Sohaib Mughal, Muhammad Shahid and Humbal Akhtar - believed to be close associates of Shahzad from Sihala area of Islamabad yesterday.
