Washington: The US on Friday said that it is looking forward to working with Pakistan`s new envoy to the country, Sherry Rehman, who will reach here over the weekend to occupy the position that was vacated by Husain Haqqani.
"She (Rehman) does indeed come at an important time. We`re looking forward to having her here in the United States," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said.
"We will obviously make clear to her that we consider this relationship extremely important," she said.
"Although it is challenging, although it is difficult, we continue to believe that the United States and Pakistan and citizens throughout the region have an interest in the closer cooperation of our countries and particularly in defeating the threats that the challenges pose, and particularly the threat from terrorism," Nuland said.
Responding to questions, she said the State Department is aware about the Parliamentary Committee on National Security in Pakistan finalising recommendations on strategic review for relationship with it.
"Obviously, we`re aware that there was quite a bit of discussion ongoing in the Pakistani Parliament," she said. "Our understanding was that at the appropriate moment, we would hear from the Pakistani government about these things," she said.
