US troop presence in Afghanistan crosses Iraq level

The number of American soldiers on the ground in Afghanistan is likely to touch the 100,000 marks; while those in Iraq would come down to 50,000.
The Obama administration is aiming to defeat and destroy the al Qaeda network, saying that terrorists have found safe havens along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Afghanistan has witnessed a series of explosions and terror attacks, including against NATO soldiers, in recent weeks, which have been blamed on Taliban militants.
