Dhaka: The High Court on Wednesday fixed May 18
for delivering judgement on a petition filed by Bangladesh
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for quashing frigate purchase
corruption case against her.
After concluding the final hearing on the petition, an
HC bench of Justice Md Shamsul Huda and Justice Abu Bakar
Siddiquee set the date for the verdict.
The now defunct Bureau of Anti Corruption (Bac) filed
the case with Tejgaon Police Station on August 7, 2002 against
Hasina on charge of damaging around Tk 747 crore of the state
exchequer in purchasing the frigate.
The Bac submitted charge sheet in this case to the
lower court on August 3, 2003.
Following a quashment petition, the HC on November
10, 2003 stayed the proceedings against Sheikh Hasina in this
The court also issued a rule upon the Bac and the
government to explain why the proceedings against Sheikh
Hasina should not be quashed.
Earlier, the HC quashed proceedings in eight cases
against Sheikh Hasina in March and April this year.
