Violence returns to northern Sri Lanka: Lawmakers Colombo: Sri Lankan lawmakers say the country's former war zone is again seeing unexplained killings, abductions and rapes despite tight security in the region.

Ethnic Tamil lawmakers have submitted to Parliament a list of 15 incidents that occurred in the northern Jaffna peninsula in the past two months. The area is the cultural heartland of ethnic Tamils and was a stronghold of Tamil Tiger rebels before they were defeated by the military in 2009.

The lawmakers on Thursday asked the government to explain how such incidents could take place even with the heavy security in the area.
