Islamabad: A woman attempted self- immolation outside a press club in Pakistan`s Sindh province to protest maltreatment by some men who allegedly harassed her and her husband.
Farzana Bhatti, 22, staged a protest at the press club at Mirpurkhas in Sindh and tried to set herself on fire yesterday but was saved by journalists and other people. Senior police officials rushed to the spot and assured her that justice would be provided to her.

Police also registered an FIR against eight youths who allegedly harassed the woman and her husband.

Bhatti alleged in the FIR that the youths, who are from influential families, had entered her home on Monday night and tried to rape her.

They fled when she raised an alarm, she said.
