Lahore: Three women were forced by a mob
to parade naked at a village in Pakistan`s Punjab province
after being accused of running a brothel, local residents said
A group of angry people attacked the house of the
women in Chak Jamber Kalan, located 65 km from here, after
accusing them of being involved in prostitution. The mob then
dragged the women, aged between 28 and 35, out of their home
and forced them to walk naked on a key thoroughfare on Sunday.
Afzal Ansari, a local journalist, said the mob also
painted the women`s faces black and cut their hair before
humiliating them in public.
He said the mob wanted to make an example of the women
"for their sins" so that no one would dare to run a brothel in
The women were later handed over to police, he said.
A local police officer, Bashir Ahmed, said the women
were involved in prostitution and had been running a brothel
for the past three years. He, however, did not confirm that
they were paraded naked.
"When the villagers handed over the women to us, they
were properly clothed," he said. Asked why a case has not been
registered against the people who had ransacked the women`s
home, Ahmed said there had been no complaint in this regard.
The three have been booked for their alleged
involvement in prostitution and were produced yesterday in a
local court, which granted them bail.
