Zardari, Gilani offer condolences to Karzai family

Islamabad: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday condemned the assassination of Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

In a phone conversation with Karzai, Zardari expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Afghan President and his family.

He described the incident as "most unfortunate".

Gilani, who too telephoned Karzai, described the assassination as an "act of cowardice".

Gilani expressed "deep grief and sorrow" at the killing and prayed to God to grant courage and fortitude to Karzai and his family to bear the loss.

The younger brother of the Afghan president, was shot dead in the southern city of Kandahar today.
