Zardari postpones UK visit after Cameron’s hostile remarks

Zardari will now be going on three-day visit to France, starting from Aug 1.

Islamabad: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has postponed his visit to the United Kingdom following British Prime Minister David Cameron’s hostile remarks against Pakistan.

Zardari will now be going on a three-day visit to France, starting from August 01.

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit however said that the programme of the President’s visit to the UK is being finalised, and denied that the visit has been cancelled.

He said that the dates would be announced at an appropriate time, The Daily Times reports.

Earlier on Thursday, Cameron defended his comments on Pakistan, and said: “I think it’s important, as I say, to speak frankly about these things to countries that are your friends.”

When asked whether he regretted damaging relations with Pakistan ahead of Zardari’s visit, he said: “I don’t accept that they have been damaged... I look forward to discussing these and other issues (with Zardari).”
