Pasadenam, California: NASA’s Curiosity rover beamed the new single by American rapper and musician will.i.am from Mars on Tuesday.
The Black Eyed Peas rapper's tune 'Reach for the Stars' is the first-ever music to be broadcast from another planet, to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California.
The orchestral tune was uploaded to the rover and then beamed back to earth- travelling a distance of around 700 million miles.
The project, collaboration between NASA and the rapper's i.am.angel Foundation was linked to an educational event for students.
The musician has been active in promoting science and mathematics education, and was among more than a dozen celebrities who were invited to JPL to watch Curiosity’s landing on the Red planet on August 6.
In 2008, Beatles’ "Across the Universe" was beamed into the cosmos to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the song.
