Ahmedabad: Eighteen-year-old Abhijit Chadha held his nerves to lift the inaugural LG Gujarat Open for his
maiden title on the amateur golf circuit here today.
Both the overnight leaders, Chadha and Aditya Bhandarkar,
looked nervy in the final push for their maiden title but in
the end, Chadha returned six-over 78 to aggregate 298, while
Bhandarkar went 81 to finish second at the par-72 Kensville
Golf Club.
Their playing partner Manav Das carded 78 to be six shots
further back at 19-over, one clear of fourth-placed Gagan
Verma.
Rahul Bajaj and Pawan Kumar shared fifth place, as they
finished one behind Verma.
"It just feels wonderful to have managed to win. I had
come close on a few occasions and having played in
leadergroups previously helped me today," an elated Chadha
later said.
"The turning point was of course the 13th and from there
I was confident I could go on to win," he said.
The players will now head to Pune for the LG Western
India Amateur, which will be the ninth leg on tour this
season.
